She said maybe: Netflix takes off in Hamburg

Keyfacts
  • Hot-air balloon providing an original photo opportunity
  • Extensive on-screen presentation via trailers, etc.
  • All main actors on site in person on one day

When emotions run high on the silver screen, real life needs a production setting that makes the magic tangible. For the launch of the romantic comedy She Said Maybe on 19 September, Netflix transformed Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier into an all-round experience for the emotions, at the heart of which was a super-sized hot-air balloon that symbolically took visitors on a journey full of emotions, twists and turns, and decisions – all inspired by the film’s plot.

From 15 to 27 September, fans were able to climb into the balloon, have exclusive photos taken and printed off to take home as souvenirs embodying perfectly the longing for new beginnings and the magic of new opportunities as conveyed by the film. The rom-com tells the story of Mavi, played by Beritan Balcı, who is looking for her place in life between Hamburg and Istanbul, experiencing an emotional rollercoaster in the process. The entire cast of the film, including influencer Caro Daur, took the opportunity to drop by in person on one of the days.

Looking on wide-eyed

It wasn’t just the balloon that attracted attention – the surrounding shop windows also proved to be real eye-catchers, with wall-to-wall branding images, two built-in screens with trailer recordings and 3D elements that stood out from the surface turned the film advertisement into an interactive overall experience.

Netflix – aided by media partner Ocean Outdoor – chose the Westfield destination in Hamburg following a very successful springtime promotion in Oberhausen. The result was a memorable media-based experience for the public, promoting the film’s release powerfully and emotionally.
